With our competive package you can get a solar system for $0 down and up to 55% of the total cost covered with government incentives!

Incentives for Residences & Businesses
Federal and State governments are trying to stimulate the economy. In addition they are attempting to reduce our country’s dependence on foreign energy sources by using green, renewable energy to power our homes and businesses. Below are the financial incentives offered by state and local governments.

Pennsylvania Sunshine State Solar Rebate Program
In May of 2009 Pennsylvania signed into law the Pennsylvania Sunshine Grant. This is a funding of $180 million dollars in incentives for homes, businesses and non-profit organizations. These funds are equal to approximately 10-35 percent for residential customers. Because the funds for this are finite and are given out in tiers, these rates may change. Please call us to get more information regarding these incentives.

Federal Rebates
The Federal Government is providing a 30% tax credit for residential customers. This is a dollar for dollar tax credit, not a write off.

Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)
SRECs are a production-based incentive to reward the solar electric system owner for producing as much electricity as possible. This type of incentive is tied to how much energy you actually produce. These credits can be bought and sold on the open market through a broker or aggregator.

How Rebate-Based Incentive Work
In Pennsylvania you will receive a dollar per watt check after the system is installed. As an example, if you install a 10kW system and there is a $1.25W rebate, you will receive a check from the state for $12,500. Many installation companies may require you to pay the full amount for the system and you have to wait for your refund. At Helios, we deduct the rebate from the amount you owe us and you simply assign the rebate to us. We wait for the state to make the payments to us.

You’ve probably seen calculators that have solar cells — calculators that never need batteries, and often don’t even have an off button. As long as there is enough light, they seem to work forever. You may have also seen solar cell arrays on satellites, where they are used to power the electrical systems.

The solar cells that you see on calculators and satellites are solar photovoltaic cells or modules (a group of cells electrically connected and packaged in one frame). As the word suggests (photo = light, voltaic = energy), photovoltaic units convert sunlight directly into solar electricity.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) cells are made of semi-conductor materials such as silicon, which is currently the most commonly used material. When the silicon absorbs light, it releases electrons. PV cells all have one or more electric fields that force these freed electrons to flow in a certain direction. This stream of electrons is a current, and by placing metal contacts on the top and bottom of a PV cell, we can draw that current off for external applications.

Solar cells alone cannot produce usable power. They need to be interconnected with other system components that ultimately conduct a specific electrical demand, or “load.”

Solar photovoltaic systems can either be independent or grid-connected. With grid-connected systems, the PV system produces power in parallel with the electrical utility. It can feed power back into the utility grid if the onsite load does not use all of the PV system’s output, this is called Net Metering.

When the sun is shining, the direct current (DC) electricity from the PV modules is converted to alternating current (AC) through an electronic inverter, and then fed directly into the site power distribution system where it supplies electric power. Any excess solar electricity is exported to the utility power grid and any shortfall is made up with electricity supplied by the grid. When sunlight is unavailable, the site is supplied by utility power alone.

Solar power has been around for decades, and is a known and reliable technology. New developments in silicone cell technology and other developments in the solar field have made the sun one of the most important energy sources of the future. Working with Helios Solar, you can take advantage of these technologies and obtain the following benefits:

Fast ROI: With PPL rates 30% higher than before and so many federal, state and local financial incentives and grants available to homeowners and businesses, solar electric systems pay for themselves faster than ever – in as little as 3-7 years.

Cost Predictability: This PPL rate increase won’t be the last. The costs of generating electricity from fossil fuels like natural gas and coal will only continue to rise as environmental restrictions stiffen and utilities expand their networks. Reducing your home’s dependency on fossil fuels will help protect your wallet from current and future PPL rate increases.

Reliability: Solar is a proven, reliable and efficient. Every day the sun rises and provides clean, silent, and free energy that will offset utility costs permanently. Developed by Bell Labs for the space program in the 1950s, early solar electric cells are still producing electricity today over 50 years after they were first developed.

Home Value: Recent studies have shown that for every $1.00 in savings on your utility bill is worth $20.00 in increased home value. Save $100.00 off your utility bill and add $20,000.00 to your home’s market value.

Environmental: Utility companies supply over 70% of electricity in the U.S. by burning fossil fuels—the leading cause of climate change. Generating electric power causes over a third of all green house gas emissions in the United States (source: Environmental Protection Agency). Reducing the electricity we draw from the grid means reducing carbon emissions. That means cleaner air, water and soil for your family, community, and generations to come.

New state incentive programs and federal tax credits can reduce the cost of a solar electric system by as much as 50%-65%.

Solar power is a renewable resource. Your electricity consumption won’t contribute to resource scarcity for your children and grandchildren.

Spin your electric meter backwards, reducing your monthly utility bills.

Solar electricity is clean and non-polluting, producing no greenhouse gas emissions. Help combat global warming one roof at a time.

Buying a solar electric system is like buying 30 years of electricity at a fixed, upfront cost, thereby reducing your exposure to rising energy prices. The more energy prices go up, the more valuable your solar system becomes.

Solar panels come with a 20- or 25-year warranty. With no moving parts, solar electric systems require no maintenance and can operate for 30-40 years.

Producing your own power is like growing your own vegetables: you know how your power is produced and where it comes from, which is supremely satisfying, just like eating a home-grown tomato.

A solar electric system may increase the real estate value of your home by $20 for every $1 in annual utility bill savings.

Diversify your investment portfolio with a wise, low-risk investment in solar electricity that pays better than CDs and is safer than the stock market.

Solar electricity is produced locally and reduces the need for new transmission infrastructure, huge mining operations, nuclear waste storage and fossil fuel resources from abroad. In addition, no wars are fought over the sun!!

Installing a Helios Solar turnkey solar system is good for the environment and can cut your electric bill to $0! At the same time, net metering can offer you immediate returns on your solar energy investment. Many home solar energy producers are selling electricity back to their electric company right now in a process called net metering. Not only are they helping to save the planet, they are also making 20% returns.

Net metering is an electricity policy that measures the amount of power you generate against the amount of power you use. If they are equal, your cost is $0. When you produce more than you use, the excess electricity can be sold back to the electric company for a profit.

Here’s how net metering works. During the daytime, a solar electric system converts free, abundant sunlight into electricity to power your home or business. It’s your own private power plant that also happens to be silent, environmentally friendly, and extremely durable. If you need more electricity than you are producing, the utility grid automatically supplies the difference.

But if you generate more than you use, the excess electricity flows to the grid, spinning your meter backwards. This electricity is banked for future use – i.e. when the sun isn’t shining – to offset the conventional electricity you would otherwise pay for. At the end of the billing cycle, if you have produced more electricity than you have used, you can sell it to the utility company.
